ERIN (11), doing social studies homework: Hitler isn’t still alive, is he?
DAD: Nope. He killed himself.
ERIN: When did he do that?
DAD: Right at the end of the war. The Soviet Army was closing in, and he shot himself before he could be captured.
ERIN: Omigosh, that’s exactly what happens on Club Penguin all the time!!
DAD: Uh…buh?
ERIN: You can do these karate duels on Club Penguin, and RIGHT when I’m about to beat the other person, he logs out…and I don’t get the points for winning. So Hitler did the same thing??
DAD: Pretty much.
ERIN: Figures. That is totally not fair.

My kid could beat up your kid at Club Penguin karate!
But I’m sensing your post has a deeper meaning than this. Are you suggesting that theists ‘log out’ whenever you’re about to ‘beat’ them in a debate, thus nobody has won?

Nope — this post is unrelated to the “Can You Hear Me Now?” series. The one unstated implication is that kids can and do learn about ethics in the course of their own play and can and do apply it to larger issues.

Never thought I’d see “Hitler” and “Club Penguin” in the same post.

Ah, the wisdom of a child … always so insightful! So true about learning ethics young and applying as we get older. Thanks for sharing!

LOL! That’s a great story! I play card jitsu on my son’s club penguin sometimes and we all agree it’s just not nice when people exit rather than lose. Ok, maybe not Hitler level
